This guide explains the causes of the "License check failed (1006)" or "License check failed (TimeStampError)" message when authenticating or installing in Smart Launcher on GDS Smart / KDS 2.0 / GENESIS Smart, and provides step-by-step solutions.
Applicable Products & Environment
- Hyundai: GDS Smart
- Kia: KDS 2.0
- Genesis: GENESIS Smart
- Related Component: Smart Launcher & Diagnostic Authentication
1. Symptom
- Error Message During Authentication: When you install, update, or authenticate a license key in Smart Launcher, an error pop-up appears: "License check failed. (1006)" or "License check failed. (TimeStampError)".
- Unable to Proceed at Authentication Step: Product installation is completed, but it cannot proceed further at the authentication step.
2. Root Cause & Policy Decision
1) Tablet Date & Time Setting Error (TimeStamp Error)
- Date & Time Not Synchronized: The tablet's Date and time is not configured to Automatic or does not match the server time.
- Server Time Verification Logic (Up to ±2 Minutes Tolerance): License authentication validates the tablet time against the server time (allowed tolerance: up to ±2 minutes). If the tablet time does not match the server time (a difference of 2 minutes or more), license verification failure (1006 / TimeStampError) may occur.
2) Corporate / Workshop Network Firewall Blocking
- Security Network (Corporate Firewall, etc.) Blocking: Error 1006 may occur when using a security network (such as a corporate or workshop firewall).
3) Not a License Key Issue
- Valid License Key: The entered license key format itself is not defective.
- Same License Key Succeeds After Changing Date & Time Settings: After changing the tablet Date & Time settings, authentication succeeds with the same license key.
4) Policy Decision Summary
| Check Item | Assessment |
|---|---|
| License Key Issue | No |
| Diagnostic App (GDS Smart, etc.) Defect | No |
| Server Authentication Issue | No |
| Tablet Environment Configuration Error (Date & Time) | Yes (Applicable) |
| Corporate / Workshop Network Firewall Blocking | Yes (Applicable) |
3. Solutions
A. Enable Automatic Date and Time in Tablet Settings
-
Go to Settings on your tablet PC:
-
Open "General management":
-
Select the "Date and time" menu:
-
Enable "Automatic date and time": Then relaunch Smart Launcher, check that there are no typos in the license key, and retry authentication.
B. If the Error Continues Even When Set to Auto — Manually Select Another Country Time Zone & Reboot
If the 1006 / TimeStampError message continues to appear even after setting the tablet's Date & Time / Time Zone to Auto, follow the steps below:
- Manually Select Another Country in Time Zone Settings: In Date and time settings, set the time zone manually (Select time zone), choose a different country/region, and save the settings.
- Reboot the Tablet: Restart (reboot) the tablet.
- Retry Authentication in Smart Launcher: After rebooting, open Smart Launcher and try authentication again.
- Set Date & Time Back to Auto After Completing All Installations: If authentication succeeds after changing the time zone to another region/country, complete all installations first, and then change the Date & Time setting back to Auto.
Note — Change Date & Time Back to Auto After Completing All Installations: If authentication succeeds after changing the time zone to another country/region, make sure to finish all installations first and then set Date & Time back to Auto.
C. Connect a Mobile Hotspot & Check Network Firewall Exceptions
- Connect a Mobile Hotspot and Retry: If the countermeasure above does not work, connect a mobile hotspot to the tablet and try installation and authentication again.
- Corporate / Security Network Firewall Exception: When using a security network (such as a corporate or workshop firewall), ask your network administrator to add a firewall exception (unblock access) for the authentication/GSW servers.
