This article addresses a situation where the ECU upgrade stops at 0–5% and error "7000-31-7F10" occurs. The causes may include failure to meet Ethernet routine conditions or a temporary communication interruption. Step-by-step troubleshooting is provided, including checking the power status, inspecting the Ethernet connection, performing a battery reset, and using an alternative device.
Symptoms
The ECU upgrade stops almost immediately (0–5%) and the error “7000-31-7F10” is displayed on the screen.
Causes
- During the ECU upgrade via Ethernet protocol, at the memory erase stage (EraseMemory 0–5%) or dependency check stage (CheckDependencies 99%), the controller (ECU) was requested to respond but sent a negative response.
- Temporary communication failure between the tablet ↔ VCI ↔ vehicle Ethernet line (e.g. poor cable connection, IP mismatch, ECU internal processing delay, etc.).
Solutions (if there is a communication failure between vehicle and diagnostic equipment)
If “7000-31-7F10” occurs during a DCU-related update, please contact the automotive quality department or the controller manufacturer.
Step 1) Check the Vehicle Power Status
Ensure the vehicle is in IG ON (engine OFF) state.
If the battery voltage is low, use an external power supply (battery maintainer).
Step 2) Check the Ethernet Communication Path
1) Check the indicators on the VCI2 and ECI or VCI3 (they should be green).
2) Reconnect all cables (Tablet ↔ VCI ↔ OBD) securely.
3) Check the static IP settings in the tablet's network settings.

4) Log out of the app, close it completely, reboot the tablet, and try the upgrade again.
Step 3) Perform Vehicle Battery Power Reset
Caution: When disconnecting the battery (-) terminal, some vehicle user settings may be reset. Proceed with caution.
1) Turn off all vehicle power completely.
2) Disconnect the battery (-) terminal for 5–10 minutes.
3) After reconnecting the terminal, try the ECU/DCU upgrade again.
Step 4) Try Another Tablet or VCI (if possible)
If the issue persists, try the update with another tablet or VCI device to rule out device-side problems.
If the Problem Persists
Further enquiries should be made to the automotive quality department (Technical Hotline or GCCS) or the controller manufacturer.
