GDS Smart update (NEH-02-0099 or higher) requires at least 20GB free storage due to a large ECU upgrade, causing installation failures on 64GB tablets. Users should clear storage manually or perform a factory reset, then retry the update. Deleted ROM data can be restored via Auto or Manual mode. For persistent issues, upgrading to a 128GB device is recommended. Contact support if needed.
Applies to
- Those using GDS Smart
- Particularly impacts 64GB capacity tablet models.
Symptoms
You might experience one of the following issues when attempting to download the recent update Software version NEH-02-0099, NVH-00-0099, NWH-00-0099 or higher:
- Internet Update does not start.
- You see the error message: “There is not enough storage space for the update.”
Why this is happening
The latest update includes a large-scale ECU Upgrade. While the update process includes logic to delete existing, unnecessary resources to make room, the sheer size of the files requires a significant amount of free space.
- Installation requires at least 20GB of free storage.
- Users with 64GB tablets are especially prone to hitting this limitation.
Resolution
If you encounter this issue, follow these steps to resolve the storage shortage and complete the update.
Step 1: Manually clear tablet storage
- Go to Settings > Device care > Storage on your tablet.
- Check your available space. You must have at least 20GB of free space.
- Delete outdated data, unused apps, or temporary files to reach the required 20GB.
Alternative: Perform a Factory Reset
If you cannot secure 20GB of free space by deleting files, you may need to factory reset the tablet (Samsung Android).
Warning: A factory reset will erase all data, apps, and settings on the device. Make sure you know your Google / Samsung account passwords, GSW account passwords, and GDS Smart's license key as they will be required after the reset.
- Go to Settings > General management > Reset.
- Select Factory data reset.
- Scroll down and tap Reset, then input your PIN or password if prompted.
- Tap Delete all to confirm.
- After the tablet reboots, reinstall the GDS Smart app and proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Retry the installation
- Once you have freed enough space, retry the update or ROM data installation.
- If the installation succeeds but you need to recover specific ROM data you deleted, proceed to Step 3.
Step 3: Restore deleted ECU ROM data using Auto mode
If you had to delete ROM data that you still need, you can restore it easily:
Note: Required ROM files will securely download from the server based on your existing ROM data profile.
- Open 'ECU Upgrade' and select Auto mode.
- Allow the system to automatically check your existing ROM data.
- Wait until the “Downloading” process finishes.
Step 4: Restore ROM data using Manual Mode
If Auto mode does not restore all the required ROM files:
- Select Manual Mode in the ROM recovery function.
- Choose the specific event or sub-category you need in Manual Mode. The selected ROM data will begin downloading.
If the issue persists
If you are using a 64GB tablet, it may be fundamentally difficult to maintain enough space for large modern updates, even after clearing temporary files.
- We highly recommend upgrading to a device with at least 128GB capacity for future stability.
- Actual usable storage is often lower than the displayed 64GB due to the OS and system files.
