Some ECU upgrade events require OTA initialization to be performed first. While it is automatically done in tools like GDS Smart, automatic initialization may fail if the vehicle's CCU status is unstable, causing the upgrade to fail as well. In such cases, the technician must manually perform OTA initialization, confirm its successful completion, and then retry the ECU upgrade.
Some ECU upgrade events require OTA Initialization to be performed beforehand.
Currently, GDS Smart / GENESIS Smart / KDS 2.0 are designed so that when such an event is executed, the app automatically performs OTA initialization first, and then proceeds to the ECU upgrade step.
However, the following issues may occur
During the automatic OTA initialization process, the vehicle's CCU status may be unstable or responses may be delayed/missing, and in such cases:
- OTA Initialization fails automatically within the app
- The app cannot proceed to the ECU Upgrade step, causing the upgrade to fail
These situations can occur.
Solution (Procedure for Technicians)
If automatic OTA initialization fails, the technician must manually perform OTA Initialization.
📍 Manual OTA Initialization Procedure Path
Home > S/W Management > CCU > OTA Initialization
Execute OTA Initialization directly from this menu → Confirm that it completes successfully.
Next Step
Once OTA initialization is manually completed successfully:
➡ Return to the ECU Upgrade menu and retry the upgrade, which should then proceed normally.
