This article provides guidance on the PDI inspection conditions commonly applicable to electrified vehicles (EV, HEV) and the resolution procedures for Entry Check failure in electric vehicles, Battery SOC below the threshold in hybrids, and high-voltage battery SOH failure in electric vehicles.
Common to electric vehicles (EV): Open the bonnet to block automatic 12V top-up charging
In an electric vehicle (EV), the 12V battery voltage rises to 14V or above even with all electrical equipment switched off, or Entry Check fails due to excessive current.
In electric vehicles, the high-voltage battery automatically tops up the 12V auxiliary battery even while waiting with IG ON.
- Start PDI with the vehicle bonnet (hood) open (Hood Open) to enter service mode. Top-up charging via the high-voltage relay is blocked, allowing normal inspection.
The AX1 EV for Europe and Australia is an exception requiring both the bonnet and the boot to be opened.
Common to hybrids (HEV): Charge the auxiliary battery via the LDC by maintaining READY mode
In a hybrid (HEV) vehicle, the voltage is normal, but the result is NG because Battery SOC is below the threshold (70%).
The 12V auxiliary battery in an HEV vehicle does not charge with the ignition OFF.
- Start the vehicle and maintain READY mode to charge to an SOC of 70% or above via the LDC (DC-DC converter).
- After charging, switch off the engine (IG ON) and carry out the inspection.
For the MX5 HEV for North America and Europe, etc., there are precautions regarding power cut-off by the 6-minute timer during automatic inspection and switching back to [Customer] mode.
Action to take when an electric vehicle high-voltage battery (HV Battery) SOH is assessed as a fail
The high-voltage battery state of health (SOH) is assessed by reading the actual measured value from the vehicle BMS controller as it is.
- If the value is below the threshold, refer the case to the manufacturer's Techline for detailed battery diagnosis.
